Are you a complete beginner who is intimidated by the watercolor medium? Are you an experienced painter who is feeling blah about your work and looking for inspiration? I teach all kinds of artists and would love to work with you in a class! Fair warning – you will have to put up with my dad jokes.
I currently teach through Minneapolis Community Education, which offers affordable classes for all kinds of adult enrichment. My courses are typically listed in the Arts and Crafts section, under Painting or Watercolor. You can also search the catalog by my name. If you are not seeing my name listed, it may be that registration hasn’t opened yet.
Current courses and one-off classes I offer:
- ONLINE Watercolor
- A multiple session class that covers everything from the basics of mixing paint to more advanced techniques to create texture and depth in your work.
- Check out the syllabus to get an idea of what you’re getting yourself into here (We have a good time! If it feels overwhelming, that’s a good sign to take the class.)
- Sometimes there are themed shorter-length courses such as:
- Nature – learn to paint sky, land, and water, typically offered in January.
- Flowers – learn to paint native flowers as well as bouquets, offered in the spring.
- Portraiture – understand the human face and how to capture a likeness.
- ONLINE Greeting Cards
- Seasonal, one-off classes where I demonstrate different greeting card projects. Methods include how to quickly complete multiple cards as well as how to complete more involved paintings for those special persons in your life.
- Previous classes covered painting autumn leaves, snow on red berries, candles, florals, landscapes, and snowflakes.
- IN-PERSON Plein Air Painting in the Park
- A summer class that is in-person in one of our beautiful Minneapolis parks! Discover local greenspace gems while painting from the beauty around you. At some point I will mostly likely say “What a great cloud!”
- Locations classes have been held:
- Minneapolis Sculpture Garden
- Minnehaha Falls
- Lyndale Park Peace Gardens
- Lyndale Park Rose Gardens
- Boom Island Park
- St. Anthony Main
- Pierre Bottineau Library
- Gluek Park
- Nicollet Island
- Edgewater Park
- Father Hennepin Bluff Park
